About Olive Branch
Hey there, I’m Rachel Sommerfield, a Licensed Professional Counselor in Arizona!
I’m the owner and Clinical Director of Olive Branch Counseling, a group practice in Tucson, Arizona.
As someone who went my whole childhood with undiagnosed neurodivergence, I’m passionate about creating spaces where others have a safe place to land and explore their identity — finding clarity and validation.
We’re about helping people of all ages who are neurodivergent (ND) and may feel different, highly sensitive, or misunderstood. Every person you come across here has a passion and commitment to neuro-affirming and evidenced based care.
We show up unmasked — with sarcasm, some cursey words, and humor in hopes that you can give yourself permission to unmask, too.
Behind the Name
The name came about as a reflection of the new beginnings I experienced after having my daughter Olivia and rediscovering myself as a mother.
The olive branch has been a symbol of peace, understanding, and possibility. Discovering who you are during a big life transition, whether that’s motherhood, a new relationship, identity around neurodivergence itself, or whatever else, understanding who you are and also scientifically why you might be struggling helps see things through a more compassionate lens.
Giving yourself the permission to become who you’re supposed to be rather than what you think you should be to everyone else in. your life.
Our mission is to offer a space where individuals and families can find understanding, validation, and support as they explore their identities and move toward growth, self-acceptance, and meaningful change.
How do I know if I’m neurodivergent?
Difficulty with Memory — Losing items, general disorganization, poor short-term memory.
Rigid Thinking -- Trouble having flexible thinking, seeing things in absolutes with no middle ground.
Emotional dysregulation — Meltdowns, shutdowns, fight/flight/freeze response.
Time Management — Time blindness, difficulty prioritizing tasks, tons of unfinished projects.
Transitions — Needing a lot of priming before small and big transitions, distress with changes in routine.
Sensory Sensitivities — Difficulty wearing certain items/textures, “picky eater,” sound/light sensitivities.
Sensory-Based Behaviors —Sensory seeking and avoidant behaviors.
We believe in creating an environment supportive to your unique wiring.
Rather than asking you to conform and mask, we work together to find creative strategies to support challenges.
By creating a solid sensory diet, establishing predictable and manageable routines and structure, and defining what limits, boundaries, and needs you have, over time life can feel less overwhelming, strengthening confidence and resilience.

Therapy for the whole system.
Because nervous systems don’t exist in isolation.
When loved ones are included in the process, we can build shared understanding, reduce shame, and create environments that more supportive for everyone.
